Joint Admission Test for M.Sc – JAM Online Application begins

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), which is emerging as the best educational institutions in the country, is not just limited to engineering and technology courses but also provides quality higher education in science related subjects like M.Sc, Joint M.Sc. PhD, M.Sc-PhD Dual Degree and other courses through Joint Admission Test for M.Sc (JAM). IISC-Bangalore Integrated PhD programs are taking into consideration the JAM Online exam score for admission. IIT Bombay issues Jam notification for next academic year 2018-19.

Joint Admission TestJam -2018 is performed online. Candidate must attend the exam paper for the course chosen by the applicant. Students can write the maximum two subjects.
Jam -2018 is conducted in seven categories (test papers). They are
1. Biological Sciences (BL)
2. Biotechnology (BT)
3. Chemistry (CY)
4.Geology (GJ)
5. Mathematics (MA)
6. Mathematical Statistics (MS)
7. Physics (PH)

JAM Online Test Schedule:
  • Exam date: February 11, 2018
  • Between 9 to 12 hours will be conducted for Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY) and Geology (GG) and Mathematical Statistics (MS) test papers.
  • Biological Sciences (BL), Mathematics (MA) and Physics (Ph.D) test papers are conducted from 2 to 5 pm.
Two papers can be tested for candidates. The papers can be selected based on the test schedule.
Fee: Women / STD / STD / PWD: Rs.750 (for a Test Paper), Rs.1050 (for two Test papers); for others: Rs. 1500 (for a test paper), Rs. 2100 (for two test papers).

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in relevant subjects mentioned above. The general category, OBC (non-creamy) students have at least 55 percent marks for all subjects (languages, subsidiaries); SC / ST / PWD should have 50% marks. Certificates for this will be provided by September 30, 2018.

  • IISC Bangalore: Integrated PhD in Biological Sciences, Chemical Science, Mathematical Science, Physical Sciences.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar: Joint Entrepreneurship - PhD in Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Atmospheric and Ocean Science.
  • IIT Bombay: M.Sc in Applied Geology, Applied Geo Physics, Applied Statistics and Informatics, Bio-Technology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, the M.Sc-PhD dual degree in environmental science and engineering, operational research and energy subjects.
  • IIT Delhi, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Madras, IIT Patna, IIT Roopar: M.Sc in chemistry, mathematics and physics subjects.
  • IIT Dhanbad, IIT Guwahati: Chemistry, Mathematics and Computing, Physics. IIT Dhanbad is additionally Applied Geology and Applied Geophysics three years M.Sc (Tech).
  • IIT Hyderabad: Chemistry, Mathematics / Mathematics and Computing, Physics.
  • IIT Indoor: M.Sc in chemistry, mathematics, physics, astronomy, biotechnology subjects. The students will be able to convert their courses in the second semester to M.Sc-PhD dual degree programs.
  • IIT Kanpur: M.Sc in chemistry, mathematics, physics and statistics; M.Sc-PhD dual degree in Physics.
  • IIT Kharagpur: Joint M.Sc. PhD in chemistry, mathematics, physics, geology and geophysics subjects.
  • IIT Roorkee: Applied Geology, Bio Technology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Physics and M.Sc.
Question paper pattran
The question paper is in the objective manner. Answers in three hours should be identified. Each paper has 60 questions in English medium. They have been given 100 marks. The question paper contains three types of questions. They are
  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): There are 30 questions. Each of the 10 questions in each of the marks and 20 questions has two marks for each question. Overall this section has 50 marks. In 1 mark questions in this section 1/3 mark for each wrong answer, 2 marks for each wrong answer in two marks questions.
  • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ): There are 10 questions. Each question has been assigned two marks. That means marks allocated to this section 20. The questions in this section have one or more correct answers. Marks will come if you recognize them all. This section does not have any negative marks.
  • Numerical answer questions (NAT): There are 20 questions. There are 10 marks for each of the 10 questions and a total of 30 marks for each of the 10 questions. These questions do not have options. Students will have to enter the answers directly. On the computer screen the answers should be identified with the help of a virtual numeral keyboard. This section does not have any negative marks.
Candidate must first read the notification details first. The syllabus mentioned in it should be studied thoroughly. The syllabus should be fully developed and the prep should be started. The syllabus can be seen through the options available on the website jam.iitb.ac.in home screen. This includes full details of the subjects. Besides, it is possible to download the last five years old JAM question papers. The JAM test is conducted online. So it is better for candidates to practice online JAM mock tests. By doing so, the time comes with the rule at the time of test.
